  Cruise to Arctic Circle
This is a wonderfully varied trip and will give you a comprehensive view of life in the far north. Polar bears, whales, musk oxen and thousands of seabirds all inhabit this region and cameras are sure to be working overtime whenever the call is given over the ship’s intercom that a sighting has been made.

Spitsbergen, Greenland and Iceland
This comprehensive tour of the north Polar region will take in all the various elements of the cold environments. Starting in Spitsbergen on the Svalbard archipelago, you will have the chance to see Polar bears and walruses on the icy shore and huge flocks of kittiwakes and auks circling above. On the open sea between here and Greenland, and again on the way across to Iceland, whales breach and blow – the blue whale migrates to this region as well, and to see this enormous and graceful animal is surely one of life’s highlights. Moving along the glaciated coast of Greenland you will experience the beautiful natural ice sculptures, and the Westmann Islands off the Iceland coast, with their colonies of cheerful puffins, complete the trip.

Polar bears
These majestic animals are the largest of all the bears. They hunt seals on the ice floes and raise their cubs on the frozen land of the high latitudes. Seeing a wild Polar bear roaming across the frozen ocean is a moving experience, and it is amazing to think how perfectly well adapted they are to surviving in such an unforgiving landscape.
The Trip
Graded ‘easy’ but can be ‘moderate’ depending on the amount of activity you wish to take part in ashore. All walks and on-shore visits are optional. Anyone who is reasonably fit should be able to take part. You should be in good health and be able to get in and out of a Zodiac inflatable boat. This trip visits remote areas where there is no access to modern medical facilities although there is a doctor on board. Warm layers and Wellington boots are essential.
Top Tips
A pair of binoculars is invaluable. Bring plenty of spare batteries for your camera; the cold temperatures mean that batteries run low on power much more quickly than usual, and they can be charged in the cabins. Bring all that you need from the UK as the small shop on the ship may not stock the ones that you need.
There are some world-renowned experts on board who can give you a great insight to the area and its wildlife. Take full advantage of this and ask as many questions as possible!
