An action-packed
adventure to Australia's Top End and the Red Centre. From the
dry deserts surrounding Alice Springs to the tropical regions
of World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, the experience
of travelling in this vast country will constantly amaze you.
Along the way, you will learn the ancient aboriginal traditions
and cultures.
Kakadu,
Uluru and the Outback This journey will take you into the
heart of Australia, a harsh and dramatic landscape of stark
beauty. From the east coast town of Cairns, cross the Great
Dividing Range and head inland through small towns dotted among
the fantastic and varied scenery. Camping is the best way to
appreciate the scale of this country, as you relax under the
huge Outback sky. The Northern Territory contains some of the
most well-known sights, including Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta
(the Olgas) and Kakadu National Park. As well as being fascinating
places from a natural history point of view they each hold great
significance to the local Aboriginal people, and you will have
a chance to learn something of their traditions as you travel
through the area.
Kangaroos
and crocodiles The Outback is full of wildlife adapted
to the tough conditions. In Kakadu, in the tropical north, the
crocodile population is expanding. Taking a boat trip on one
of the many rivers, it will not be long before you spot these
prehistoric reptiles lounging on the banks or cruising the warm
waters. Noisy galahs and black cockatoos fly through the eucalyptus
trees, and long-legged jabiru storks wade in the wetlands. In
the drier regions, red and grey kangaroos bound easily across
the landscape these symbols of Australia will provide
a lasting memory of an amazing journey.
The Trip
This trip
is graded as 'easy' and is suitable for anyone in good health
and of normal fitness - although sometimes the heat can be tiring.
