A Hands On Adventure
This diverse itinerary offers you the chance to get up close to the leatherback and green turtles that inhabit the Caribbean coastline of Costa Rica and Panama. While staying at the Pacuare Reserve turtle conservation project in Tortuguero National Park you can take part in turtle patrols - protecting the nests, hiding them from poachers and helping to measure and tag the turtles, all of which helps to preserve this fragile ecosystem. Bocas Del Toro
Crossing the border into Panama takes you to the spectacular and hardly known Bocas del Toro, an archipelago of small, palm-fringed islands and white, sandy beaches. Take the time to snorkel in the crystal clear water and marvel at the marine life.

Boquete Highlands
From the Caribbean coast you head inland to the Panamanian Highlands of Boquete. The scenery changes dramatically around you as you enter lush, leafy hills covered in coffee and orange plants. Walking among the unspoilt hills you can see all types of wildlife and plants that will amaze you.

Panama City & Canal
Your final stop on this journey is Panama's capital. Panama City is a vibrant contrast between the modern and the historic. You will see both sides of this in visiting the Panama Canal as well as the old Spanish fort of Portobello.

The Trip

Top Tips

Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colours so avoid wearing dark blue or green t-shirts. Monteverde is very dense so take 400 ISO film for the best shots of this atmospheric cloud forest. Take advantage of the Caribbean influence on the East Coast and eat some genuine jerk chicken and fish dishes on the beach.

Day 1 - Fly to San Jose.

Day 2 - Morning city tour; afternoon free

Day 3 - Drive through Braulio Carrillo NP to Caño Blanco and on to Tortuguero NP.

Day 4 - 5 Volunteer activities at turtle conservation project.

Day 6 - Drive to Panamanian border; transfer by water taxi to Bocas del Toro

Day 7 - 8 Explore the islands by boat; snorkel in the sea

Day 9 - 10 Drive to Boquete highlands

Day 11 - Hike in cloudforest; visit coffee plantation (optional)

Day 12 - Drive to Panama City; afternoon free

Day 13 - Panama Canal & Portobello Fort visits

Day 14 - 15 Overnight flight to London
