Trekking & National Parks
You start your adventure with a visit to Berenty, home of the beautiful sifakas. Heading into the desert-like south you’ll wander into the rocky landscape and deep canyons of Isalo National Park; during your walk here you may encounter the ring-tailed lemur. In Ranomafana National Park you have the opportunity to view nocturnal animals before you travel to Perinet, home of the indri, largest of the lemur family.
Evolution at work
The world’s fourth largest island broke away from the African mainland roughly 125 million years ago. Its subsequent isolation has ensured the evolution of spectacular wildlife, the like of which is found nowhere else; the endearing lemurs, 800 species of butterfly and moth, half the world’s species of chameleon, and an extraordinary variety of orchids.
Option Holiday Extention - Day 1-13 are as per main itinerary. On day 14 you transfer back to Tana with the group and then catch a short flight to Isle Saint Marie. Here you check into your beach resort. The Boraha Village is an atmospheric, small property, situated right on the beach. All rooms are bungalow style with a sea view. They are built out of wood and local materials and offer en-suite facilities. Over the next 3 days you have plenty of free time to enjoy the beautiful beach and pursue some of the activities arranged through the hotel, such as snorkelling or fishing trips, sea kayaking, water skiing or diving. From June to September humpback whales come to the shores off Isle Saint Marie to give birth - a whale watching trip might be an unforgettable experience.
The Trip
Moderate walking, although heat and humidity can make conditions uncomfortable. Paths in the rainforest are often ill-defined and some scrambling on steep, uneven terrain can be expected. Roads are very poor in places, so travel can be rough, slow and not particularly comfortable. Some accommodation is basic.
Top Tips
Don’t buy batteries for your camera in Madagascar. If you manage to find any for sale at all, you will find that they have very little power in them. New AA batteries may only have enough juice to take one digital photo! Bring all you need from home. At Tana airport, once you have gone through passport control, the local currency (ariary) is not accepted. Take some Euros or US dollars if you want to buy drinks or snacks.

Traveller’s cheques are not accepted at the bureau de change at Tana airport. Use cash to exchange for local currency (most major currencies accepted). Some tourist shops take payment in Euros so it may be useful to take some with you.

Accommodation
You will have: Hotels (8nts), lodges (4nts).
13 breakfasts and 8 dinners are included. You must pay for all other meals yourself (you can eat quite well for £10-£15 per day). Approximate costs are given for guidance only, and may vary widely according to location and type of establishment.
