Come and spend a
week and take a traditional greek caique cruise around the Gulf
of Evia in the Mediterranean sea. This is an ideal way to get
a total break and really unwind in a short holiday Crossing
the sea by day, we stop to enjoy a swim, snorkel or walk and
in the evenings, we drop anchor in one of the quiet harbours
of the local towns to enjoy traditional Greek hospitality!

Boarding our caique in Evia, we make
for mountainous and the fishing village of Panagia where we
pause to explore and take our first dip on the warm waters of
the Aegean. It's possible to walk to the red-roofed village
of Almiros Potamos before we depart for Eretria, a region that
has its own Poseidon legend. Here we will enjoy the first of
several relaxed meals taken in local tavernas, and an opportunity
perhaps to trying traditional mezes. |

Next morning free time allows for
an exploration of the town, once one of the most powerful city
states of ancient Greece. The Temple of Apollo, Acropolis and
Gymnasium date back to the 4th century and are well worth a
visit. Later we cruise to Porto Buffalo, a perenial favourite
amongst our travellers being both beautiful and, almost always,
deserted. |

As we meander along the coast we
drop anchor for regular swims. Nea Styra is well known for its
stunning beaches and for those who want to stretch their legs
a walk above reveals magnificent coastal views. Further along
the coast the charming harbour-town of Karistos is an ideal
place to relax, unwind and take it easy enjoying the tavernas
that huddle around the quay near the beach, although there are
several alternative options ranging from a walk to the ruins
of the 13th century Castello Rosso or to the mines at Killindri
from where outstanding views can be had. |

This journey
is full of adventure and activity: including sailing the Whitsundays
and 4-wheel driving on Fraser Island. Bring a sleeping bag and
a sense of fun. Walks are easy but conditions can be hot. |

Space is limited
on board so only bring what you need. A soft bag is strongly
recommended as it is more easily stored than a hard suitcase.
A daysac is useful for shore excursions.
July and August are the hottest months though the islands are
freshened by cooling winds. You'll need your
swimming gear and an extra towel. Early and late in the season,
there may be an occasional shower and you will need a warmer
sweater and/or fleece for the odd chilly breeze whilst we travel
between the ports. |
