Camels in the Sahara
From Ouarzazate you head for an oasis to join your camel caravan and strike out into the Sahara Desert. You’ll experience the pace, life and hospitality of the nomads who for centuries have taken trading caravans across the desert.
Dunes & Stars
Camping out amongst the dunes you are engulfed by the solitude and dazzled by the stars of the desert sky. As dawn breaks, the camp stirs and the caravan forms once more to move off for your second day's trek.
Ait Benhaddou & Exotic Marrakech
Leaving the desert behind, you visit the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou and perhaps take the option to visit the nearby film studios. Crossing the imposing Atlas Mountains your journey ends in vibrant Marrakech. The main square is like a medieval carnival filled with snake charmers, jugglers and acrobats. The narrow alleyways of the souks feature hundreds of small shops, each like an Aladdin’s cave - perhaps you’ll find a mysterious lamp or a pair of magic slippers!
The Trip
Desert conditions are rustic and there are few facilities at the overnight desert camp. Hotels in Ouarzazate, Ait Benhaddou and Marrakech are clean and comfortable but are not luxury accommodation. All three hotels have swimming pools. No real physical activity is involved; you can choose to walk alongside, instead of ride, your camel. There are opportunities for activities such as walks but none are compulsory. Any healthy child or adult should be able to take part. It's more a case of preparing mentally for Moroccan life. Seasoned travellers are unlikely to have any problem with this. Whilst it can get hot during the day in the desert it can also get cold at night and you should be equipped appropriately. Minimum age: 5 years.

Top Tips

Don’t try to change money in the street in Morocco - it is illegal.

RAMADAN: Please note that during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, sites and museums throughout the Muslim world are subject to reduced opening hours and there may be some limitations as to the provision of services. The impact on our trips is usually minimal and indeed this can be an interesting time to visit as the streets are usually lively during the late evenings. The month culminates in the celebration of Eid al Fitr, when families eat together in celebration. The approximate dates of Ramadan in 2008 are 02 September to 02 October; in 2009 they are 22 August to 20 September. Eid el-Kbir/Eid ul-Adha is a four-day festival that is often marked by national holidays in Islamic countries. This starts about 70 days after the end of Ramadan
